A Handful of TLC
By Kimberly SealsFor a lot of us, our hands can be a problem area when it comes to dry skin. Our hands come in contact with more things throughout the day than any other part of our bodies, and yet, our hands are often the most neglected parts of our body when it comes to skincare. And with the weather cooling down, it’s more important than ever to show our skin some extra love. Keep reading for Elle Vie’s top tips to keep your hands feeling flawless.
Exfoliate those Fingers
We know that we’re supposed to exfoliate our faces regularly, but what about our hands? Exfoliating your hands once or twice a week with a gentle exfoliant, like Elle Vie’s natural sugar scrubs, will not only provide your hands with an extra glow but also make it easier for your hands to absorb and retain moisture.
Keep it Clean
If you don’t know by now, then where have you been? Keeping our hands clean is imperative to our health. However, the methods we use to keep our hands clean are not always kind to our skin. From harsh soaps to alcohol based sanitizers, our hands can dry out much faster than other parts of our skin. Even the temperature of the water that you’re using can play a role in drying out your skin. Hot water dries the skin out much quicker and is no more effective than washing with warm water.
One way to combat dryness from habitual washing and sanitizing is to be mindful of what you are cleaning your hands with. Soaps and sanitizers that include soothing ingredients such as aloe vera can help to alleviate dryness.
Moisturize Every Time
Despite our best efforts, it’s impossible to use soothing cleansers every time we clean our hands. Once you leave the comfort of your own home, you often have to use whatever is on hand. That’s why remembering to moisturize your hands every time you clean them is so important.
Moisturizing your hands after each wash or sanitize will help to retain moisture and provide a protective layer against ashiness while you go about your day. While soap is a given in most situations, moisturizer is much rarer. That’s why we love to keep a mini tin of Elle Vie on deck for lasting and fragrant mostoirization. Be sure to wait until your hands are dry if you’re moisturizing after sanitizer.
For an extra boost in moisture, use a heavy moisturizer (like shea butter) right before bed.
